Nabw gearing up for 2012 entrepreneurs’ month

Preparations for the 2012 Month of the Women Entrepreneurs, annual celebrations which provide a platform for women to interact and acquire knowledge from business experts, are underway.

The National Association of Business Women (Nabw) is Malawi’s focal point for the International Labour Organisation (ILO) project on the Women’s Entrepreneurship Development and Gender Equality (Wedge) at the centre of the preparations for the 2012 Month of the Women Entrepreneurs.

As one of the activities under Wedge, stakeholders last week held a preparatory meeting in Blantyre.

“We are starting our planning process. We are looking at the theme, activities and on how we can involve rural women entrepreneurs because there has been an outcry that previous activities did not involve rural women entrepreneurs,” said Mary Malunga, Nabw executive director.

She added that women in Malawi, who make up about 52 percent of the population, are key drivers of the economy.

The annual celebrations provide a platform for women to interact and acquire knowledge from business experts to overcome some of the challenges they face in improving their businesses.
