The meeting involving Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) and its affiliates held in Blantyre on Friday to discuss concerns raised by the latter could not be concluded and had to be postponed to Saturday.

Among other things, the affiliates are seeking an explanation from NAM on the failed 2011 Standard Bank National Netball Cup and administrative hiccups.

NAM general secretary Helene Mpinganjira and Central Region Netball Committee (CRNC) chairperson Fanuel Katengeza confirmed that Friday’s meeting had to be postponed to Saturday.

Said Mpinganjira: “We have not concluded; we are meeting again today [Saturday], but as for more details contact the president [Rosy Chinunda] who is NAM’s spokesperson.”

However, Chinunda could not be reached for her comment.

But Katengeza disclosed that the affiliates raised seven concerns and four were tackled on Friday.

“We should finish later today as there are only three issues left to be discussed,” he said.

However, Katengeza could also not be drawn to divulge what had been discussed.

Apart from NAM, the meeting was also attended by regional committee chairpersons Florence Chakhaza [South] and Alick Mkandawire [North].

Standard Bank managing director Charles Mudiwa spilled the beans when he accused NAM of being off the rails in terms of administration leading to the cancellation of a tournament the bank sponsors.

The regional netball committees then called for the resignation of NAM executive, accusing them of failing the sport.
