The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) disciplinary committee, headed by Daud Mtanthiko, is this Saturday expected to deliver its determination of a case involving Diamonds players and assaulted time-keeper Dalitso Chinyama.

The committee heard out either side on Saturday at Blantyre Youth Centre. Chinyama complained that the players and officials assaulted her during a GOtv championship league match, whereas Diamonds also lodged a complaint over Chinyama’s suspect timekeeping.

“We had a hearing that took place from 8 am to 2 pm as it involved some six or seven players and officials from Diamonds, whereas hearing out Dalitso only lasted for two hours as it was just one person,” Mtanthiko explained on Monday.

“We are bound to come up with direction this Saturday on the two cases of assault and some players implicating the timekeeper.”

The incident happened on October 18 2014 during a match against Complex Tigresses. The Diamonds accuse Chinyama of time-delaying tactics when alerting umpires on time-outs.

However, The Daily Times reported on Tuesday some Diamonds players such as Sarudzai Gondwe, Anne Phiri, Alinafe Kamwala and team manager Sella Mwafulirwa missed the hearing for reasons yet to be established.

Involvement of people with club allegiances in decision-making positions within netball bodies had led to such cases.
