NAM gets sprung floorfrom World Netball
The Malawi Queens will now be able to host big guns in netball following a donation of a sprung floor by World Netball to NAM.
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) general secretary Isaac Chimwala said in an interview yesterday that the sprung floor is worth R3.2 million (about K195.2 million).
He said: “This signifies a new chapter for our game as we’ll be able to host teams such as England and Australia.
“We were unable to host them because we did not have such facilities.
“Some of our overseas-based players are reluctant to play on hard surface for fear of injuries.”
Chimwala said the floor will be installed at Griffin Saenda Sports Complex in Lilongwe.
He said World Netball also made a similar donation to Kenya.
“As Malawi, we qualified for the sprung floor because we are the only high-ranked country in netball that did not have the facility.
He said NAM will be responsible for transporting the facility to Malawi.
Australia-based shooter Mwawi Kumwenda described it as a big breakthrough.
She said: “Professional players are reluctant to play on hard surface. That is why even teams like South Africa can’t come to play us here.
