NAM ushers in new executive committee

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) yesterday elected a new executive committee to lead the association until the next elective assembly in 2025.

The elections at Malawi Sun Hotel in Blantyre followed the resignation of the previous committee before the expiry of their four-year tenure in August next year.

Yesterday, NAM regional, district, coaches and umpires committees endorsed Vitumbiko Gubuduza as president Cecilia Mtukule-Bondwe as treasurer, Tamara Fweta, Fernando Ligola, Justice Katika and Margaret Maluwa as members.

Gubuduza: We will ensure transparency

The NAM affiliates were obliged to confirm the six, appointed on interim basis by Malawi National Council of Sport.

The elective general assembley  also elected Lumbani Ntonyo as vice-president, Charity Gondwe as vice-general secretary and Anastasia Kaphale as vice-treasurer.

Ntonyo beat former Malawi Queens shooter  Linda Magombo by 39 to five votes while Gondwe edged Paul Kaphala by the same margin to become vice-treasurer.

In her acceptance speech, Gubuduza said her priority is to restructure the association, among others, establishing a secretariat, a marketing strategy and put in place strong youth development structures.

“We are also hopeful to have a national league and a lot of competitions. We will as well putting in place financial controls to ensure transparency and accountability,” she said.

One of the 44 NAM delegates at the EGM, Tasila Kagwa Anisa said she has confidence in the new team that it will help the sport grow.

Malawi National Council of  Sports marketing director Limbani Matola said the EGM went on smoothly and they are hopeful that the new NAM executive will deliver.

He said: “This new executive committee has all the qualities and we expect to see NAM having a new way of running its operations for netball to regain its glory.”
