It was a rare occasion when one of the country’s oldest gospel groups Ndirande Anglican Voices took to Mibawa Multipurpose Hall in Limbe, Blantyre a scintillating three-hour performance.

Dressed to impress, the outfit from Ndirande Township in Blantyre opened their performance that was also beamed live on television, with a plea for support from their fans.

“We are here to sing and praise God. Our theme is ‘The benefits of being a disciple,” said music director Dennis Kalimbe.

The event, dubbed gospel gold, proved that Ndirande Anglican Voices have enough hits to sustain their prolonged stay on stage as every song they performed was received with warmth with patrons singing along.

They opened their performance with Ine Ndibwelera.

As they performed Ndasaina, the song that probably introduced the group to the nation, there was a deafening sound as patrons sang along almost submerging the group’s voices.

Among their many songs they performed included Mundisunge, Zimandikwanira, Wakutuma Ndani, Namondwe, Mukhale Nane, Ndasamba Mmanja, Mulungu Amatikondera, Inenso Ndili mom’mo and many more.

“Those of you watching from home, we have mobile numbers displayed on the screen. If you feel it in your heart to help our ministry, do so. Also patrons that are here, do not just dance, contribute whatever you have please,” said Kalimbe.

The group’s vocals and Mibawa Resident Band sound output were a perfect balance which patrons at the venue and those watching online appreciate.

Wrote Sylvester Chagontha: “The choir combined with Mibawa Mighty Band is superb. Today, we have been served some real music.”

Another patron Doreen Mhone said the performance was everything she envisioned and so much more.

“It has been a great evening. I knew they are good but I did not expect them to be this excellent. They have surpassed my expectations,” she said.

Towards the end of the show, the group’s self-declared patron Kondwani Nankhumwa offered K200 000 and asked for Ndasamba M’manja. Many others also made contributions both in the hall and via mobile money.

At exactly 10.23pm, the group performed the last song.
