Malawi Human Rights Youth Network (MHRYN) has partnered with Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar) in promotion of science among young people.

MHRYN will be bringing together students from secondary schools across the country to Luanar to appreciate the work of science at the university as one way of motivating them to work hard in science subjects.

MHRYN president, a lecturer at Luarnar and a biotechnologist, Kingdom Kwapata, said the programme is called ‘Summer Science Camp’.

He said the arrangement will help youths to develop interest in science subjects so that when they later get entry into university they should not find it difficulties.

“We have discovered that many youths lack interest for science just because they lack information and motivation for this field. Therefore, this arrangement will solve this challenge by letting the ‘junior’ scientists know more what it takes for one to be a scientist,” said Kwapata.

He added that the Summer Science Camp will start in September this year and will host 500 students across the country, adding that the targeted group will be those who will have just finished form four and those who will be on holiday.
