Northern Malawi artists are set to hit the music scene with a bang following the setting up of a new record label, Shokkwave Records, in Mzuzu City.

The label, a brainchild of Key Lounge owner, Trouper Thindwa, is housed within Kentam Mall complex.

Thindwa said on Tuesday the initiative is to promote Northern Region artists who, despite their huge talents, do not make it big on the national platform.

“Last year’s music awards had no artist based in the Northern Region despite the huge talent we have here. As such, I thought of coming up with Shokkwave Records to fill that gap through promoting and marketing our artists,” he said.

He also said the record label will be launched on October 27 at Key Lounge where Maskal, Pisky, Armstrong and Barry One are expected to entertain patrons.

Shokkwave Records has already signed Mzuzu-based artists in the names of Slessor, Lady Pace, Gudfly, Flexseas and Tissy Mike, according to Thindwa.

Currently, the artists are working on their first single, Party at the Bay, scheduled to be performed at the Moon Rock Festival on the sands of Chintheche, Nkhata Bay, between October 12 and 14.

Slessor enjoys massive play on radio stations and TV with his song, Heart Break, produced by HP records in Blantyre.

Thindwa said his record label will produce the signed artists’ songs freely, promote them, sell their CDs and arrange for their performances.

In return, the record label will benefit from an agreed percentage of gate fees from the artists’ shows.
