Midfielder Robert Ng’ambi has recovered from what was perceived to be a terrible foot injury in South Africa, but it is too late though for inclusion in the Flames squad already in Chad.

Ng’ambi came off the bench in the 88th minute when his Platinum Stars edged Blomfontein Celtic 1-0 through Innocent Mkhabela’s second-half goal at the Botshabelo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

“[Thuso] Phala shot over the bar before he was replaced by Robert Ng’ambi as he returned from an injury picked up in the loss to Ajax Cape Town on February 15,” the club’s official website www.platinumstars.com reads.

Due to the injury, Ng’ambi did not make Flames squad that has left for Chad ahead of Wednesday’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations preliminary round qualifying match. Striker Chiukepo Msowoya did not play for Stars.

Still in South Africa, the scoring drought continued for striker Atusaye Nyondo who was substituted in the second-half in a game SuperSport United lost 1-0 to Amazulu FC.

Nyondo is third in the top scorer race on six goals, three behind leading Mamelodi Sundowns’ Katlego Mphela’s nine goals. Moses Chavula did not feature for Amazulu.

Amazulu are 10th on 22 points, SuperSport slipped to fourth place on 32 points, four behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Stars are 12th on 16 points, just ahead of Santos on similar points.

Flames captain Peter Mponda and Tawonga Chimodzi did not play in Santos’ 1-1 draw with Ajax Cape Town in a Cape Town derby on Saturday.

In Botswana, Lawrence Majawa kept the midfield ticking on Sunday enabling Township Rollers to beat Gaborone United 2-1 in a Be Mobile League derby at the University of Botswana, Gaborone on Sunday.
