NGO hails group for constructing a clinic

Women for Fair Development, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO), has commended Mdeka Mother Care Group for constructing an under-five clinic in Traditional Authority (T/A) Chigaru in Blantyre District.

The organisation’s executive director Lindiwe Matanya said this on Wednesday during a mother care group training organised by Malawi Health Equity Network (Mhen) at Mdeka Health Centre.

She said the group has shown commitment and dedication by also constructing a waiting shelter for an under-five clinic in Malifa and Masinde villages.

“What Mdeka Mother Care Group has done gives a clear indication that there is good coordination between the group and the health surveillance assistants,” said Matanya.

One of the group members, Elube Bisaye, from Yesaya Village said, they mobilised money from chiefs, members of Parliament and other non-governmental organisations operating in the area for the construction of the waiting shelter.

She said: “We have moulded bricks for two waiting shelters which will be constructed in two other villages

“When construction of these shelters is complete, we want the District Health Office to send us health surveillance assistants to help us with the required immunisation services.”

Mhen roleld out the pilot project in 2015 targeting Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mchinji, Dowa, Ntchisi, Kasungu and Mzimba funded by Global Alliance Vaccine immunisation through the Ministry of Health.
