Ngumi Boxing Promotions is set to sponsor Chimwemwe Chiotcha to fight Ugandan Med Sebyala in an African Boxing Union (ABU) middleweight title in Kampala on February 15.

Ngumi Promotions manager Stephen Mawenzi Msiska told The Nation on Monday that all contractual agreements concerning the bout are ready for the boxer’s perusal and signing.

However, Msiska said the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxer needs to beat Limbani Masamba in a title fight at the Kamuzu Institute for Sports in Lilongwe on February 2.

“I would say 80 percent of the work regarding the preparations for the international bout is complete. The ABU has already assented to the arrangement. What remains is for Chiotcha to win his last fight,” said Msiska.

Further, Msiska said Chiotcha needs to avoid absorbing hard punches in the February 2 bout to be in good shape for the international assignment, considering the short time between the two fights.

A win against the Ugandan will give Chiotcha a lifeline to improve his ABU ranking, which dropped two places in the last release.

On his part, Chiotcha, who is currently in camp, said he cannot afford to miss the opportunity which would put him on the international map.

“It is clear Masamba is the only barrier I need to break to get onto the international stage,” he said. “This is why I will try my best to knock him out in the first-half of our 12-round bout.”

A few days ago, the Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) president Lonzoe Zimba appealed to boxing promoters, the corporate world and well-wishers to arrange international bouts for MDF pugilists Chiotcha, Osgood Kayuni and Wilson Masamba before August to avoid expulsion from the ABU rankings.
