Ngwira in Presidental Cup committee

Suzgo Ngwira has been incorporated in the 2012 Presidential Organising Committee in what appears as an extension of an olive branch to the National Women Football Committee (NWFC) president.

Ngwira, who was recently in bad books with FAM over the treatment of her committee, was, after her failed bid for FAM executive committee post in Salima, further ignored when co-opting the association’s female executive member early this month. FAM secretary general Suzgo Nyirenda confirmed on Thursday that the association was determined to mend fences.

“I am glad to say that the 2012 Presidential Football Cup Organising Committee has co-opted Miss Suzgo Ngwira to be one of its members. She is part of the family and we will continue working hand in hand with her as we promote and develop women football in Malawi,” Nyirenda said in passing when asked about FAM’s working relationship with affiliates.

He said the new approach to football matters was in line with FAM president Walter Nyamilandu’s call on his re-election on December 17 2011 in Salima that it was time to heal the wounds of Malawi football.

“The FAM president clearly stated that we need to work together and he extended an olive branch to all those who were opposing him. All football administrators should now work up from their dogmatic slumber and realise that our differences pushed football in Malawi backwards,” he said.

Ngwira joins a committee which Jabbar Alide chairs and members include Nyamilandu, James Mwenda, Innocent Botomani, Trouble Kalua, Mabvuto Mike Missi, Christopher Mdolo Casper Jangale and Nyirenda as spokesperson.

The main desk members are Ben Mhango and Patrick Chisale. The cup’s preliminary round starts on February 11 at the district, regional and youth levels. Super League teams will join at national level on April 2.

Registration started on January 23 and ends on February 3.
