National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust Neno civic education officer Wallace Kudzala has urged youths in the district to register to vote or contest for positions in the 2025 General Elections.

He said the youth should take part in the elections by contesting at constituency level as members of Parliament or as ward councillors, apart from taking part in voting.

Kudzala said this on Friday during a meeting with members of youth networks in the district through its Boma Lathu Project aimed at raising awareness on the amended electoral laws.

“The youth form the largest majority of the population. You should, therefore, take part by either contesting or voting in the forth-coming general elections,” he said.

Kudzala said research shows that the majority of the youth fail to take up the challenge.

He said most youths complain of money as the limiting factor, adding that campaign requires huge financial resources.

Kudzala appealed to the youth to take part in the voting processes as one way of exercising their rights and responsibilities.

Mkuyu Youth Club chairperson Mercy Donda Dube said she intends to contest as a ward councillor in the September 2025 General Elections.

Nice Trust is implementing a three-year Boma Lathu Programme in Neno District to enhance people’s participation in electoral processes with support from the European Union.
