The National Initiative Civic Education (Nice) Public Trust has urged area civic education coordinators in Karonga District to design and plan interventions that will foster transparency, accountability and good governance in their communities.

Speaking on Saturday at Uliwa during orientation of area civic education coordinators from traditional authorities (T/As) Mwirang’ombe and Wasambo, Nice civic education officer for Chitipa and Karonga, Mabvuto Mkandawire, said they wanted the coordinators to become familiar with Nice’s Strategic Plan (2021-2026) and Boma Lathu Programme.

Tripartite Polls Calendar

“This will in turn enable them to come up with interventions to instil mindset change values and help Malawi Government achieve the aspirations of the Malawi 2063 development plan,” he said.

Mkandawire also said they shared the 2025 Tripartite Elections Calendar with the coordinators for them to immediately start engaging communities in readiness for the elections.

“We expect a more coordinated and uniform approach to civic education in their areas,” he said.

Felix Kayuni, a coordinator from Zgeba Ward in Karonga Nyungwe Constituency, commended Nice Trust for the training.

He said there was need to take messages contained in Boma Lathu Programme, Malawi 2063 development strategy and Nice’s Strategic Plan to people, adding that it was important to engage communities on the 2025 Tripartite Elections to enhance their participation.

“If we are to develop our communities, there is need to prepare messages that are in line with Boma Lathu Programme and the Malawi 2063 plan. I am pleased the training empowered us with skills to disseminate the messages to communities,” he said.

Another coordinator Esther Nyirenda from Khwawa Ward in Karonga South Constituency said her first activity will be to engage para-civic educators and traditional leaders who in turn will take the messages to the community.
