National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has engaged journalists in the Northern Region affiliated to Nyika Media Club on investigative journalism and 2025 General Elections preparations.

Speaking in Mzuzu on Thursday, Nice Trust district programmes officer for Mzuzu, Rumphi and Mzimba North, Freency Maganga, said it was crucial to partner the media in disseminating information to the public.

Maganga: Media plays a crucial role

She said: “We recognise the limits of our own reach and acknowledge the critical role the media plays in disseminating information to a broader audience.

“This is why we are partnering them to amplify our message and engage a wider audience.”

Mapanga emphasised the need for the media to conduct investigations to uncover tangible evidence and bring issues to the fore.

“The training was crucial in equipping journalists with the skills to disseminate information on democracy, good governance, transparency, accountability, and corruption,” she said.

Nyika Media Club chairperson Feston Malekezo commended the trust for organising the training, saying it was essential as the country moves closer to 2025 General Elections.

Established in 1999 as a public trust, Nice is responsible for leading civic education activities in Malawi.
