Nico General Insurance wins Unima golf tourney
Nico General Insurance Company golf team paraded triumphantly on the grounds of Blantyre Sports Club (BYC) on Friday after beating United General Insurance (UGI) in the University of Malawi (Unima) Golden Jubilee Golf Tournament fundraiser.
Nico General team that comprised Eric Chapola and John-Gift Mwakhwawa accumulated 43net points against their contender’s 40 points.
Chapola described good preparation as well as hard work on the course as their secret to take hold of the trophy.
“The tournament was stiff but since we had a burning desire to win we boosted up our inner morale that drove us safely until we have seized the shield,” he said.
Unima awarded Chapola and Mwakhwawa with a mini cooker each as well as a trophy.
On his part, Chancellor College principal Richard Tambulasi, who spoke on behalf of the Unima vice-chancellor, thanked golfers for their participation.
“We ventured into golf, that apart from fundraising, we wanted to create a platform for various individuals and companies to interact in the process share ideas that can boost their operations,” he said.
Tambulasi said Unima plans to host such tournaments in future to raise money for the transformation of the status of its institutions. n
