Nico Life Insurance on Friday donated K500 000 to three Lilongwe orphan care centres at a function that took place at Nico Centre in Lilongwe.
The money was realised through a raffle draw conducted during a golf tournament the firm organised on July 19.
“As part of the golf tournament, we decided to have a twist so that winners of the tournament would get their own prizes and also pick an orphan care centre of their choice to benefit.
Today, we are presenting money to those orphan care centres chosen by the winners,” said Nico Life branch manager for Lilongwe, Steven Kanyoza.
George Chisambo, who won the tournament in the men’s category, chose Lumbadzi-based Mtendere Village.
Mtendere got K250 000, Village of Hope received K150 000 while Tikondane Orphanage took K100 000.
“This is part of our social responsibility to give to the less privileged. Golf is an eminent sport and associated with the rich, but through the sport we are also mindful of the less privileged,” said Kanyoza.
“This is a noble gesture from Nico Life. We have been working together with Nico Life for many years and we are very grateful. We appeal to other organisations to come in and help the less privileged. We are so grateful for this support from Nico,” said Sister Florence Muwamba of Tikondane Orphan Care Centre. n
