Nigeria’s coach Stephen Keshi has hailed the Flames for snatching a late equaliser against his Super Eagles in a 2014 World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

Keshi told SuperSport on Sunday that the Flames showed characteristic grit to hit the late equaliser.

“Let me congratulate Malawi on showing great determination to equalise in the dying minutes.

“It is not easy to concede a late goal and then equalise, they showed a lot of character,” said Keshi.

The Flames equalised in the very last minute of added time through John ‘CJ’ Banda after towering defender Ruben Gabriel had put the visitors in the lead with only a minute left in regulation time.

Nigeria top Group F with four points followed by Namibia’s Brave Warriors who have three points after their 1-0 win over Kenya’s Harambee Stars in Windhoek on Saturday night.

Kenya anchor the group with a single point earned in the goalless draw against the Flames in Nairobi.
