Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Mapuyu South West Joseph Njobvulayema has offered to sponsor Lilongwe and Districts Netball League (LDNL) outfit Model Sisters.

The team has run without sponsorship for 12 years.

Model Sisters team manager Zacharia Kasakula and Njobvuyalema confirmed the news on Monday.

The parliamentarian said he was mesmerised by the team’s performance.

“I invited the team to play a friendly during a prize presentation of Elephants football and netball leagues in my constituency and I was impressed with their performance,” said Njobvuyalema.

He said the team has young talented girls who can make it big in netball.

Njobvuyalema said he has already started helping the team, which will change its name to Lilongwe Elephants, on logistics and transport.

“I will soon announce the amount I will pump into the team. I cannot disclose it now, but it is a big amount. I am organising friendly games so that I can observe them. Next week, they will play against Chipata Select of Zambia,” he said.

Kasakula, who is also general secretary of LDNL expressed gratitude at the sponsorship.

Model Sisters, which was formed in 2000, finished sixth in the league last season.
