Nkhoma’s opponent fails medical test

The international non-title fight between Happiness Nkhoma and Kenyan Charity Mukane failed to take place at Nankhaka ground on Sunday.

The bout was to curtain-raise the light middleweight World Boxing Forum (WBF) title fight between Agnes Mtimaukanena and Kenyan Susan Adezo. Mtimaukanena won the bout on unanimous decision.

To the surprise of the crowd, the organisers removed Nkhoma’s bout from the list without disclosing the reasons.

Ngumi Boxing Promotions manager Stephen Msiska said that the fight was cancelled on medical grounds.

“According to professional boxing rules, boxers are supposed to go under medical check up before they fight. Although she was cleared in her country that she was fit, we insisted on conducting the tests here and it was discovered that Mukane was not fit for the bout,” said Msiska.

But he declined to disclose the areas where Mukane failed the test.

In the three amateur supporting bouts, Lilongwe female boxers won them all.
