Mighty Wanderers FC has appointed one of its legends Yasin Osman as its technical director in a bid to improve the team’s technical frailties.

The Nomads have also appointed their team manager Kannock Munde to double as assistant coach to Gerald Phiri who has been maintained despite calls from a section of the fans who were demanding his removal.

WanderersThe Nomads’ chairperson George Chamangwana referred The Nation to general secretary and club spokesperson Mike Butao who could not be reached for comment yesterday.

But Butao’s vice Chris Kananji confirmed the appointments though could not give further details.

“I can confirm the appointments, but I cannot go into details because I did not attend the actual meeting,” said Kananji.

Osman also confirmed his appointment in an interview with MBC Radio 2, saying he got down to work on Wednesday.

“I cannot say much because today was my first day, so maybe as we progress, I will get involved more and more.

“But from the little that I have seen, the problem is that the players do not believe in themselves and do not know their responsibilities. This is the case probably because most of them are new. The coach has got a big job to get the players to play the way he wants them to and also believe in themselves,” said Osman.

Munde said he was not aware of the changes.

The team’s main supporters committee chairperson Dinesi Chitsulo confirmed having been briefed about the changes.

“What happened was that when we lost to Azam Tigers (1-0 in a Super League match), our zonal supporters committee leaders approached us and suggested that we ask the executive to consider removing the coach because he has not had an ounce of luck during his stint with the team,” said Chitsulo.

The Nomads have experienced one of their worst seasons.
