Chamangwana: I approached friends

Barely a day after being retained as Mighty Wanderers FC chairperson, George Chamangwana has sourced prizes for a raffle draw amounting to millions of kwacha.
Chamangwana, who went in unopposed during the team’s elections on Sunday, said he has sourced a minibus, three 32-inch television sets and golf shirts from well-wishers for the cause.
“This is part of the fund-raising drive towards the team’s operations. I approached friends and other individuals within and beyond the borders with the idea and they were impressed,” said Chamangwana.
He said Nomads have engaged a marketing company to run the raffle for four months. He said smaller prizes will be given out weekly.
“We have not yet set targets as we are yet to sit down with the marketing agency, but we hope to raise quite a substantial amount as we hunt for a sponsor,” he said.
The Nation was shown the minibus at Wanderers Club on Sunday. However, Chamangwana could not immediately state the total cost of the prizes.
Recently, Big Bullets also ran a raffle draw for their supporters for the aborted trip to South Africa, but up to now the main supporters committee is yet to disclose how much was made from the venture.
