Nomads revive campaign

Be Forward Wanderers revived their campaign after beating Karonga United 1-0 yesterday at Karonga Stadium in the TNM Super League.

The victory has ended Nomads three-game losing streak following losses in the league and Airtel Top 8 Cup.

Wanderers lost 0-1 to Silver Strikers in first leg of Airtel Top 8 in first leg before a 4-2 defeat by Blue Eagles in the Super League,

Silver also beat them 1-0 in the second leg of the Airtel Top 8.

New catch, Babatunde Adepoju scored  the only goal for the Blantyre-based giants  at half packed Karonga Stadium 31th minute of the game.

Babatunde capitalised on  defensive lapses to beat goalkeeper Happy Msowoya.

The game started with Wanderers doing most of defending as the home team dominated in search of an early goal.

Karonga United missed good scoring chances through Victor Lungu and Mude Geoffrey in the first 20 minutes.

It was 0-1 up to the resting time in favour of the visitors.

Karonga are coming from a 0-1 defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals, Savenda Chitipa United at the same venue.

The second half was not as explosive as the first half, but Wanderers missed a chance to double the lead through Isaac Kaliati.

After the loss to Blue Eagles in the league, Nomads fired coach Bob Mpinganjira, his assistant Allan Kamanga and technical director Yasin Osman.

They replaced Mpinganjira with his brother Albert in interim capacity.

Speaking in post-match  interview, Nomads team manager Stevie Madeira thanked its charges for winning saying  Karonga United were not a walk over.

“We are coming from poor record. Today’s win was a must. We thank our players for the good work because Karonga United were also a better side today,” he said.

Nomads will face Savenda Chitipa United at the same venue today.

On his part, Karonga United coach Dan Dzinkambani said they played well, but they need to take chances.

“We played well. We dominated the affair, but we could not earn the goal. We need to work on finishing part,” he said.

In other games played yesterday, Silver Strikers beat Mzuni 2-1,  Mighty Tigers also recovered from last week’s two losses to beat Civil Sporting 1-0.
