Eye of the Child has named Nation Publications Limited EveryWoman editor Caroline Somanje this year’s Child Protection Award Champion.

Every year, Eye of the Child Board of trustee present special Award to a nominated individual that has excellently contributed in protecting the rights of children in Malawi.

In a statement, Eye of the Child said its Board of trustees nominated Caroline Somanje as a recipient of the 2014 Child Protection Award.

“The team that nominated Caroline followed up on her two child marriage stories in Nsanje and Blantyre. The team have been very impressed with the determination and the end results of her involvement in the stories.

Apart from ensuring that justice is served, Caroline impressed the panel for her determination to secure support towards changing the lives of the victims,” said Zipporah Jede, End Child Marriages Now: Project Coordinator at Eye of the Child.

Eye of the Child like many other stakeholders said are impressed with the work and the accomplishment achieved by Somanje in child protection by using her profession.

“All in all, she received the majority of nominations from the stakeholders that we consulted,” she said.

The 2014 award recipient receives a monetary prize as a family gift and a certificate that will be presented to her along the 2013 recipient during the children training in life skill on 18th December 2014 in Chilomoni Township at Beehive Training Hall.

The occasion will be graced by His Excellency, the Canada High Commissioner to Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, Ambassador Shawn Barber and His Lordship, the Mayor for the City of Blantyre, Councilor Noel Chalamanda and Eye of the Child Executive Director, Mr. Maxwell Matewere.
