The Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) has revised the 2016 Simama Premier League  prizes, with champions Chitipa United expected to get K1.2 million from the initial K1 million.

According to NRFA general secretary Masiya Nyasulu, second-placed Kaporo Stars will get half the champion’s prize while third-placed Chilumba Barracks and fourth-placed Zolozolo FC  will receive K 300 000 and K150 000 respectively.

Initially, Kaporo, Chilumba and Zolozolo were supposed to get K700 000, K500 000 and K300 000 respectively.

“The executive committee, at its recent meeting, resolved to hike prize money. By increasing the top prize, the champions will have a boost in preparing for Super League,” said Nyasulu.

Will get K1.2 million: Chitipa United

While commending NRFA for the increase, Chitipa United team manager Germany Phikani Nkhata said they were equally happy with the K1 million prize as agreed during the annual general meeting (AGM) last year.

Kaporo Stars owner Alufeyo Chipanga Banda said the increase would be good if applied to all the four top teams.

“We are surprised with the executive committee’s conduct. How come they have only hiked the champions prize money? This is not good, thei ncrement should have applied to all the four top teams,” he lamented.

Apart from team prizes, there will also be individual awards. Abel Mwakilama of Chitipa United will receive K40 000 for being top goalscorer. Best print and radio reporters will receive K20 000 each.

The prize presentation ceremony is set for January 27 in Mzuzu. n
