Nsanje District Council has moved to provide a temporary shelter for Nyamthepa Community Radio Station to resume broadcast.

The station manager David Guta confirmed the development in an interview.

“We are excited with this development and we should be back on air in the next four days. Tomorrow, we will be doing some testing,” said the overjoyed broadcaster.

The development follows media intervention and a request for space from Nyamthepa management presented to the council’s authorities in the morning.

When contacted to break the news, Media Council of Malawi (MCM) board chair Wisdom Chimgwede expressed excitement with the council’s kind gesture.

Earlier in the day, MCM expressed concern to note that the community radio had gone off air due to Cyclone Freddy’s induced floods that wreaked havoc at the station.
The radio is instrumental to the council and other organisations in the district in warning communities about floods and providing information about development activities.
