Ntcheu DHO to renovate Covid-19 treatment unit
Ntcheu District Hospital spokesperson Stella Kawalala says the district health office (DHO) plans to renovate the Covid-19 treatment unit to create more space.
In an interview, she said the exercise is meant to enhance the capacity of the facility in an event of increased cases.
“We do not want to be caught unawareness; hence, the renovation exercise,” said Kawalala.
In a separate interview, health activist George Jobe commended the DHO for renovating the facility.
He said: “The DHO should learn from the three Covid-19 waves that have hit the country.
“Having experienced these waves, we have learnt that districts should have enough quarantine spaces.”
The Covid-19 treatment unit at the hospital can only accommodate 12 patients. Currently, there are four patients on admission.
The district has cumulatively registered 832 Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, the DHO has intensified awareness campaigns to encourage people to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
