Ntchisi South parliamentarian Ulemu Jermoth Chilapondwa, who is also Malawi’s Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, on Saturday and Sunday invited Football Association of Malawi and National Referees Committee to train sports administrators in his constituency.

FAM executive member James Mwenda and retired referee Verson Lwanja conducted the two-day training.

“Next week, I am launching a K1 million trophy in the constituency, so I thought it wise to organise a training workshop for football administrators, coaches and referees to orient them on the rules of the game,” said Chilapondwa.

Mwenda said the orientation afforded FAM an opportunity to reach out to rural areas of the country.

“We are grateful to the deputy minister for giving us the opportunity to orient football administrators on modern ways of managing football. As FAM, we would love to conduct such training in all the districts, but we have not been able to do so because of lack of funds,” said Mwenda.

He said the training will go a long way to improve standards of football in Ntchisi.

“We are optimistic that they will impart the knowledge to others and in the long run Ntchisi as a district will benefit,” said Mwenda.

Meanwhile, Chilapondwa is expected to launch football and netball trophies on Sunday.
