Former deputy army commander Lieutenant General Ernest Ntonya, who died at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre last week, was buried at his home village at Mbulumbuzi in Chiradzulu at the weekend.

Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Necton Muhura conveyed a message of condolence from President Bingu wa Mutharika. He said the President was saddened by Ntonya’s sudden death.

Deputy Army Commander Lieutenant General Clement Kafuwa said the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has lost a colleague who served his country with patriotism and professionalism.

“As someone who took over office from him, I had a lot of things to learn from his experience,” Kafuwa said.—George Ntonya, Correspondent
