Ntopwa Utd, Mthandizi in Katika finals

Ntopwa United FC will face Mthandizi All Stars in the K2 million Justice Katika Football Tournament finals competed for by teams from Bangwe Township in Blantyre.

In netball, Ntopwa Super Girls will face Ntopwa One Sisters this weekend.

The tournament is sponsored by Katika who is aspiring for a parliamentarian seat for the area on an independent ticket.

To qualify for the final, Ntopwa United edged Ntopwa One 1-0 while Mthandizi All Stars beat Green Lalanje 2-0.

In netball, Ntopwa Super Girls beat Dalilani Sisters 24-6 while Ntopwa One Sisters thumped Mafikizolo 33-7.

According to one of the tournament’s organisers, Frank Maideni, they are waiting for the Katika’s confirmation on the dates for the finals; otherwise, the tentative dates are May 10 and 11 at Desert Ground.

The champions in football and netball will receive K200 000 and K100 000 respectively and trophies. Runners-up in football will get K150 000 and in netball K70 000.

Forty-two football teams entered the tournament which started at group stages and the current leading scorer is Geoffrey Palanda, with 18 goals.
