Nyala Hockey Club has new leadership

yala Hockey Club has a new executive committee following an elective general assembly held at Country Club Limbe (CCL) last weekend.

James Chibisa, who was vice-chairperson in the previous committee, was ushered in as chairperson unopposed to replace Dean Pinto who did not contest due to other commitments.

Krishna Achuthan also went in unopposed as vice-chairperson.

Audrey Panjwani, Nina Kapezi, William Bakili and Fiskani Katundu were elected general secretary, vice-general secretary, treasurer and vice-treasurer, respectively.

Wilson Mkandawire is the new team manager while Mustapha Munshi is the technical adviser.

Former treasurer, Allan Pinheiro, opted to vie for technical director position.

The committee members’ list comprises Peter Mtokale, Jimmy Change, Laurie Arthur, Francis Chapenga, Kezzia Kangulu and Chipi Mzanda.

Chibisa said he will prioritise sourcing of sponsorship for the team.

“But this would be much easier if we pull up our socks in terms of performance and the turn–up of players’ at training sessions,” he said.

The team, whose men’s side finished third in the FMB 11-A-Side League last season, also presented awards to some of their outstanding players this year.

Player of the year accolade in the men’s category went to Clement Kachepa while Caroline Gobede was named the best player in the ladies’ section.

Innocent Masangano and Grace Jana were named best upcoming player in their respective categories while Emmanuel Wilson and Doreen Banda were voted as the best young players of the year. n
