Mpingwe Sports Club (MSC) Orange and Kukoma Grey made it into Inter-Club 20-overs Cricket Tournament semi-finals on Sunday after respectively edging out Anchor Industries Silver and Right Price Purple during fiercely contested quarter-final matches at MSC.

Silver won the toss and batted first to make 139 runs in the entire 20-overs, but Orange replied by making those runs in just 19.3-overs, thanks to individual brilliance of their captain Llyas Bhiku, who made individual contribution of 55 runs.

Silver’s sohel rustam emerged the best player of the match after making 75 runs, but his great effort was not good enough to save his team from the jaws of defeat.

In the other quarter-final, Grey made 152 runs in 19-overs to outclass Purple, who made those runs in 20-overs.

According to the competition’s organising chairperson Saeed Limdawala, two other quarter-final matches, MSC Blue versus Fattani Gold and Oriental Cricket Club (OCC) against MSC White, have been shifted to Sunday because the venue of the encounters, the OCC was hosting other functions last weekend.

The competition, which had 10 teams, completed group stage matches last weekend when Kukoma Grey and MSC Orange earned resounding victories over MSC Black and Oriental Cricket Club (OCC) to maintain unbeaten runs despite having already qualified for the last-eight stage before getting into the field.

The semi-finals and finals of the annual contest are expected to be conducted next week. n
