Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has said only those serving in the existing regional committees will be eligible to contest in the forthcoming amalgamated regional associations’ elections.
FAM chief executive officer Sugzo Nyirenda said the elections will be restricted to those already serving because most of the committees’ tenure of office is still running.

Nyirenda said FAM executive committee has since set November 8 as the date for the regional polls.
“This is a transitional process whereby we are merging the regional leagues and committees into one regional association and, therefore, there has to be continuity bearing in mind that most of the committees’ tenure of office is still on.
“The regional committees that will be elected will just be for purposes of transition and they will serve for two years only and the situation will be normalised thereafter,” he said.

The FAM CEO also said deadline for submitting nominations will be November 1, a week before the polls.
He said the elections will be presided over by FAM.
So far, Central Region Football League (CRFL) chairperson Dini Josaya-Banda has already declared his interest to contest for the position of chairperson for the region so has Southern Region Football Committee (SRFC) leader Raphael Humba who wants to head the regional body in the South.
