Paris Luwinga were on Saturday crowned champions of the Northern Region Pool League (NRPL) after beating Kashololo in the finals at Chenda Hotel in Mzuzu.

Paris Luwinga won all six games in the early games to enable them to qualify for the semi-finals.

In the final play-offs, Paris Luwinga lined  up against Ngomambo while Kashololo lined up against Soldiers.

But Paris Luwinga and Kashololo had a wonderful display and made their way into the finals of the league.

At the end of the play-offs, Paris Luwinga men won six plays against four earned by Kashololo.

Captain for Paris Luwinga, Dumi Munthali, said he is not carried away by the regional lead, saying the team aims to win the national league.

“Winning this tournament is a pride, but not the end of our mission. We will still maintain our focus of being among the leading teams nationwide. We feel making that grade will enable us to contribute more players in the national team,” said Munthali.

Chairperson of NRPL Mathews Munthali thanked sponsors of the league, saying their support has sustained the sport.

“I would like to thank Josofati Tiyanjane who has travelled all the way from Kasungu and pumped in K86 000 (US$209) to top up the prize money,” said Munthali.
