People of traditional authorities (T/A) Jenala and Kasongo in Phalombe North have commended Pacific Group of Companies for repairing broken boreholes in the area.

The compliments come after the company repaired 30 boreholes in Phalombe South.

In an interview yesterday, Veronica Bonomali of Saidi Village, T/A Kasongo said she used to draw water from a nearby stream.

“There were no functioning boreholes in the area, which forced women to fetch water from wells and streams,” she said.

Another community member, Ane Nandolo from group village head Mkoko, said she used to wake up early to go to a nearby village to draw water.

She appealed to her fellow community members not to vandalise the boreholes.

Pacific Group borehole rehabilitation team leader Abdul Majeed said they are expected to repair 29 boreholes in the area.

“Our next assignment is Phalombe Central Constituency,” he said.

Phalombe North legislator Mavuto Bokosi (Democratic Progressive Party) commended the company for fixing the boreholes, saying it would be difficult to do it a lone.

“About six boreholes were completely vandalised and we had to source new materials, but 23 were non-functional,” he said.

Pacific Group of Companies started repairing boreholes in 2015 and has so far rehabilitated over 6 000 boreholes in the country.
