Malawi President Peter Mutharika today posted Chief Secretary to the Government Hawa Ndilowe to Tanzania as High Commissioner and replaced Army Commander Henry Odillo with Major General Atanasio Maulana.
This development means that Ndilowe has been effectively removed from a position she held since April 2012 when former president Joyce Banda appointed her as the first female chief secretary.
According to a statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) signed by acting chief secretary to the Government Willie Samute,

Ndilowe’s posting was with immediate effect.
It is not yet known who will replace Ndilowe, but Capital Hill sources indicated that former deputy chief secretary Necton Mhura is set to take up the post.
Mhura, alongside Mutharika and other former ministers in the government of the late president Bingu wa Mutharika, were facing charges of treason until they were dropped after assuming office through victory in the May 20 Tripartite Elections.
In a related development, the President has also replaced Odillo, who came into the limelight in April 2012 for preventing an alleged coup when Bingu died, with Maulana.
Maulana comes in at a time when the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) is embroiled in alleged acts of theft of billions of public resources.
Maulana, who was chief of military operations, will be deputised by Brigadier Griffin Supuni who has replaced John Msonthi.
Supuni has been based at the Malawi mission at the United Nations in New York.

  1. We all knew the fate of Odillo. Don’t worry Man. You executed ur duties in line with the supreme law of the land without fear or favour. One day, you will bounce back from a different angle and those against you now, will be ashamed of themselves. Ndilolandilana bwaloli. Good luck Odillo.
