Petro hopes for game time at new club
Flames defender-cum-midfielder Charles Petro says he is hoping to get more game time at his prospective Romanian Liga 1 club FC Botosani.
He is set to start a new lease of life in Romania following the expiry of his three-year contract with Moldovan top league outfit Sherrif Tiraspol.
In an interview yesterday, the 21-year old said everything pertaining to the deal has now been finalised and he is set to depart next month.
There were reports that Fifa-sanctioned player intermediary Amadou Fontem Tigana had threatened to halt the deal after allegedely being dumped by Petro.
Petro said he has signed a two and a half years deal with Botosani.
He said: “I am excited with the new deal because I did not enjoy much game time as I would have loved at Tiraspol.
“I am hoping that things will be better there and I cannot wait to get started.”
Botosani recorded their first European appearance in the 2015–16 Uefa Europa League season.
Flames coach Mario Marinica, a Romanian, described Botosani as a good side.
“They play regularly in the European cups. Financially, they are very stable and always looking to bringing African players and sell them on,” he said.
Petro secured a deal at the Moldovan side after his impressive debut TNM Super League season with Nyasa Big Bullets in 2020.
He also earned a Flames call-up in his maiden season with the People’s Team.
Bullets coach Kallisto Pasuwa is on record as having said that since the diminutive defender’s departure, he has not been able to find a suitable replacement.
During the 2019 season, he was named Defender of the Season.
