This year’s Kasasa Golf Open currently underway in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota will, for the first time, include professionals’ section in courtesy of the Ethanol Limited, Plascon Paint Malawi, ICTC who have pumped in a total of K900 000.

Ethanol have injected K400 000, Plascon K270 000 and ICTC Malawi K230 000 according to the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of Malawi interim president Patridge Shycal.

Shycal: It is a boost

“We have sought sponsorship, especially for our pros division so that the professional golfers can be motivated. We are grateful to the three companies for investing in the professional section,” he said in an interview yesterday.

“We wrote several companies seeking sponsorship but these three responded positively.”

He said as PGA they are trying their best so that professional golfers should not be starved of action

He, however, conceded that as a newly-formed body, it is not easy to secure sponsorship.

“We are still new and our concept is yet to be embraced fully but soon we will be there. We want professional golf to reach great heights like it is in other countries,” said Shycal.

One of the professional golfers taking part in the Kasasa Open, Adam Sailesi, has also commended the three companies.

“We need frequent tournaments if we are to be relevant and at par with other countries. The money will motivate golfers to give out their best in Dwangwa,” he said

The Kasasa Open teed-off yesterday will end tomorrow. Over 150 golfers from across all golf clubs are taking part.
