Phalombe South Constituency member of Parliament (MP) Mary Kuzampanga has commended Lawilink for organising an albino festival on Friday at Namasoko Primary School in the district.

The festival called Albino My Friend was aimed at sensitising and creating awareness to remove the myth that the society holds on people with albinism.

Speaking in an interview, Kuzampanga commended Lawilink for choosing Phalombe as the initial district for its annual albino festival.

She said: “ We were living in fear because recently a boy with albinism was attacked. However, the festival has assisted people to realise that we are all equal and that body parts of people living with albinism are not different from ours and cannot enrich anyone,” she said.

Lawilink project manager Elizabeth Machinjili said the annual albino festivals they will be holding in nationwide will help to change the mind set of people towards people with albinism.

Lawilink presented skin cream, sun glasses and long sleeved shirts to people with albinism. The items were donated by Queens Elizabeth Hospital(QECH) in Blantyre while Globe Electronics funded the event. nz
