Phillip Phambana emerged winner of the Afrox Wednesday Ball Pool at Blantyre Sports Club.

It could not have been sweeter for the golfer who celebrated his 62nd birthday two days earlier.

Playing off 17 handcapp, Phambana had a brilliant score of 36 points to see-off a challenge from 44 other golfers.

“Honestly, I did not expect it. It is a special gift for me because I only celebrated my birthday on Monday. So, I would like to say thank you to Afrox for giving me a special gift,” said Phambana who got a gas cooker as his prize.

Revitalised Diana Kambale was the champion in ladies category with 19 points. She also thanked Afrox for including ladies in the event.

“Of course, my putting was bad today, but in the end I still made it,” said Kambale.

Harold Lungu was the runner-up in the men’s category whereas Nishen Kanavathy came third on 18 points and 19 points respectively.

Lucy Ganiza was the runner-up in the ladies category with 16 points.

Afrox sales manager Jeremiah Phiri said his firm is back to continue its romance with golf at the club.

He said Afrox is in the business of supplying gas.

BSC golf captain Donbell Mandala thanked Afrox for sponsoring the ball pool.
