Plan Malawi commends LDF projects in Mwanza

Plan Malawi says it is impressed with the progress of the Local Development Fund (LDF) teacher’s houses projects in Mwanza.

Plan Malawi projects manager Jepther Mwanza said this on Monday after visiting three projects in the district.

“The projects here have given a very positive impression as they seem to be well implemented. It also shows that the district commissioner was vigilant with the monitoring as this has shortened the implementation period,” said Mwanza.

Out of the three schools visited, two schools completed their projects and their head teachers have since occupied the houses.

Head teacher of one of the schools yet to be completed, Stanford Kambalame, said failure to receive money in time from the district council is slowing the project at Nsambang’ombe Primary School.

“So far, there has been a good turnout from parents in terms of collecting sand and moulding bricks but the big problem is the delay in releasing money for the workers.

“For instance, this project was launched in December 2011, but two contractors have since left the project for Mozambique due to late pay,” said Kambalame.
