Plan Malawi has urged citizens in Kasungu to take a leading role in managing projects the organisation is implementing.

Plan Malawi’s programmes and sponsorship coordinator for Kasungu Planning Area, Duff Phiri , said this on Friday when the organisation handed over three classroom blocks worth K17 million to Chimaliro Primary School.

“What we provide are a few building materials and funds. We let the community take full control of the project. They identify the artisans and provide other building materials. This is one area where we want the local community to be empowered to ensure sustainability and ownership,” he said.

Group village head Kachinda said people in the area have embraced the concept as they are always ready to take the responsibility of running a development project.

“Everyone here knows the importance of development projects. That is why we are always willing to take a leading role in these projects. For the project at Chimaliro Primary School, we had committees that were managing it and we provided sand, timber and bricks,” said the chief.n
