Police in Kanengo have arrested eight boys for allegedly vandalising primary schools in Area 25. Kanengo Police Station spokesperson Esther Mkwanda said the boys are members of a criminal group believed to have been formed some months ago. “The group is known as B13 and investigations have shown that it was established by boys between the ages of 13 and 15,” she said.

Mkwanda explained that her office arrested the boys after receiving complaints of intimidation and assaults from various schools in the area.

She said some of the eight boys are school drop outs while others are still learners.

“Most of their parents have told us that their children have been stealing from their homes, but they had no idea that they were also doing so outside,” said Mkwanda.

She said the boys were found in possession of pangas, screw drivers and uniforms.

Mkwanda said the boys will be sent to Chisomo Childrens Club in Lilongwe and will be monitored with help of the club for the betterment of their future.

Chisomo Childrens Club is a life changing institution for young people and police will be monitoring them, according to Mkwanda.

The boys are answering charges of being found in possession of offensive weapons contrary to Section 313(A) of the Penal Code and conduct likely to cause breach of peace contrary to Section 181 of the Penal Code. n
