Police recover K50 million goods

Police in Blantyre have recovered assorted stolen property valued over K50 million from homes of suspected criminals.

Following a two-day exercise, police also arrested three suspects and a woman who was found with bags of cannabis sativa (chamba).

Blantyre Police spokesperson Elizabeth Divala said the goods were seized in Blantyre central business district (CBD), Mbayani and Chirimba townships during a sweeping exercise they have been carrying out due to increased housebreaking offences.

Quad bikes, motorcycles, plasma television sets, home theatre systems and computer sets are some of the items recovered by police. Some items have already been identified by their owners.

The arrested suspects are Frank Smooth, 27, from Ntambalika Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Njema in Mulanje, Emmanuel Phiri, 25, from Muhoma Village, T/A Kapichi in Thyolo and Paul Nahe, 27, of Lupiya Village, T/A Ngolongoliwa in Thyolo.

The woman who was found in possession of Indian hemp, has been identified as Catherine Mphembera, 33, of Liphava Village, T/A Phambala in Ntcheu. n
