Police shoot suspect dead

Police in Lilongwe yesterday shot dead one suspect and arrested two more following a tip-off that a gang of alleged thieves planned a heist of tithes from Assemblies of God Church.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula told The Nation that the incident occurred around 1.30 pm when one suspect, only identified as Bon, was shot in both legs around Bwandilo traffic lights as he escaped police pursuit.

The suspect died on arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH).

Dandaula said: “We received information that there was a gang which was planning to ambush the individual who banks tithes from the Assemblies of God church. Police acted swiftly and arrived at the scene before the ambush could be carried out and went in pursuit of the suspects.”

Dandaula said a further pursuit of more suspects took the Police through Area 15 where two were captured.

The country is experiencing rampant insecurity with constant attacks on ordinary citizens in their homes and businesses such as filling stations.
