Police urged to work within law
Inspector General (IG) of Police Lexten Kachama has urged police officers and stakeholders to work within laws.
His remarks come at a time some police officers are dying in line of duty.
Speaking on Monday in Mponela, Dowa during Community Policing Annual Review Meeting, Kachama urged police officers to refrain from any form of retribution but work within the law.
“These [being killed in the line of duty] should not discourage you but be tough on criminals while working within laws. You should, however, be more careful when dealing with these criminals,” said Kachama.
On community policing, he said they are for the safety of Malawians.
“This (community policing) includes not only safety from crime but also child abuse, gender-based violence, promotion of road safety and security, human rights and the rule of law,” said Kachama.
The review meeting, among others, pinpointed challenges faced in 2015 and came up with recommendations for next year. n
