Platinum Predators have claimed the ultimate glory in the Electra Sales Indoor Cricket Tournament after beating Eazy Pack Eagles by 34 runs in the finals at Mpingwe Sports Club (MSC) in Blantyre on Saturday.
Eazy Pack batted first to make 56 runs in 12 overs, but Predators ran over their opponents with a total of 90 runs.
Predators also dominated individual awards as they grabbed four of the six honours. They produced player of the tournament Munir Karodia, best fielder Anas Rawat, upcoming player Aftaab Saeed and best bowler Taufiq Limbada (nine wickets).
The best batsman accolade went to Bilal Chachia of Jangos Express (140 runs in five matches) while Zubeir Dossani of Arif Steel Kings grabbed the courageous player award.
“It feels great to be crowned champions after enduring a tough challenge. It was a tight contest but luck was on our side,” Predators captain Karodia said.
Eazy Pack captain Akbar Bhana attributed his team’s defeat to loss of concentration due to fatigue in the closing stages.
Electra Sales general manager Ridhwan Omar expressed delight at the good patronage and promised to sponsor the next competition.
MSC cricket committee chairperson Jussab Aziz thanked the organising committee for a wonderful tournament whereas executive committee member Wasim Mussa said an indoor football contest will follow in April before a hockey tournament after the Ramadan period.
Ten teams competed in the competition, namely Predators, Eazy Pack, Builders Blazers, Jangos, Bakers Pride, Vendors Den Dragons, Africa Cattle Warriors, Arif Steel Kings, Latib Strikers and Lido Lions.
