Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki is scheduled to visit Malawi next week when he is also expected to meet President Joyce Banda.

Said State House press secretary Steven Nhlane on Tuesday: “I have not yet been communicated on the day of the visit, but it will be next week around 14, 15 or 16 January.”

Nhlane said Kibaki’s visit follows Vice-President Khumbo Kachali’s visit to Kenya last year, where he represented Banda during a Kenyan women’s organisation launch of 60th anniversary celebrations.

“Among other issues, the visit will help in strengthening the bilateral and trade relations between Malawi and Kenya,” he said.

Kibaki’s visit follows other recent visits by high-profile international guests such as US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, IMF managing director, Christine Lagarde, wife to US business magnate Melinda Gates and Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan.
