Flames team manager James Sangala says all the five foreign-based players called up for the upcoming Cosafa Cup will join the squad in South Africa.

The quintet is South Africa-based Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango and Gerald Phiri Jnr; John ‘CJ’ Banda, Chawanangwa Kaonga and Richard Mbulu, who ply their trade in Mozambique.

“All the five players have confirmed their availability, but for logistical purposes they will join us right there is South Africa where the tournament will be held,” he said.

Has confirmed availability: Mhango

The tournament will run from May 25 to June 8 in Durban.

Sangala said the tentative date for Flames’ departure is this Thursday.

Meanwhile, there is a possibility that the tournament could affect some TNM Super League fixtures as some teams such as Nyasa Big Bullets, Silver Strikers, Be Forward Wanderers and Blue Eagles might contribute four or more players each.

Bullets have contributed 11 players in the 34-member provisional squad, Silver have six while the Nomads and Eagles have each contributed four.

The People’s Team is scheduled to face Eagles this Saturday at Nankhaka ground in Lilongwe. Bullets are also slated to face Moyale Barracks and Mzuni FC on June 1 and 2 respectively in Mzuzu.

Silver are scheduled to host capital city rivals Civil Sporting Club on June 2.

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) general secretary Williams Banda said: “We are discussing the issue with FAM and once done, stakeholders will be informed.”
