If I were

Richard Msowoya

Speaker of Parliament, I would appreciate that it was wrong for me to authorise the purchase of top-of-the-range vehicles for me and my colleagues in the prevailing economic circumstances.

If I were bwana Msowoya, I would realise that no amount of explanation will justify such luxury, especially coming at a time when government issued a directive against vehicle purchase due to the tough economic conditions.

Oh yes, if I were the Speaker, I would also appreciate that it was irresponsible of me to make light of the issue considering the serious economic problems which the country is facing.

If I were ‘Mr. Speaker, Sir’, I would appreciate that government is not implying that I, my two deputies and indeed the leader of opposition in Parliament, should be using public transport, but that we should have been considerate by purchasing moderate vehicles other than the ‘posh-gees’.

In that way, Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would be painting a picture of a caring leader who appreciates the economic challenges that the country is facing.

That is if only I were bwana Msowoya. Unfortunately, I am not Mr. Speaker Sir!
